Back once again with some weekly musings, interesting news and Trump memes to keep you occupied on a Friday.

Let's get into it...

🗞️ News Roundup

High Temp Heat Pump ♨️

High temperature applications are the most challenging for Heat Pumps, so interesting to keep a weather eye on MIT startup AtmosZero. Reporting.

They have picked up $28.5m over the last 4 years from Grant to Series A [$21m].

There is a huge global industrial energy consumption for steam networks, powered by fossil gas boilers. From food & beverage, paper, chemical and pharma, and on to district heat networks and large public sector buildings like hospitals.

2.2 gigatons of CO2 emissions are generated each year to turn water into steam - accounting for more than 5 percent of global energy-related emissions.

A topic I discussed with James Macnaghten of Caldera - EP06 is finally going to be live next week, standby!

They have a new compressor technology, co-incidentally, something that HotGreen are working on as well - I talked about this with Georgia Ware, in EP08, for future release. ✅

Head on over to explore the tech further. AtmosZero.

India Avoids Detour ↩️

Great analysis from our friends over at Ember once more. Deep dive here.

India, the behemoth of a country with the largest global population of over 1.4billion, approximately 1/6th of the globes people.

They are making moves, and fast - they don't have to tread the same path as other nations on their debcarbonisation journey. Electrotech is here. ⚡

😎 Solar Energy Growth: 9% of electricity generation by 2025, up from 0.5% a decade earlier.

🪨 Reduced Coal Dependency: India's per capita coal generation is only 1 MWh, about 40% of China’s level in 2012, indicating a peak in coal demand without following the extensive ramp-up seen in China.

🚗 EVAdoption: By mid-2025, EVs will represent around 5% of car sales in India, making the country a global leader in electric three-wheeler sales.

🛢️ Lower Oil Demand: India’s per capita road oil demand stands at 96 litres, approximately half of China’s 2012 levels and nearing its peak, signaling a shift away from oil dependency.

⚡ Electrification Rate: India’s electrification rate is nearly 20%, comparable to China’s in 2012, with a steady growth of about 5% per decade.

These points highlight India's strategic advancements in energy and technology, showcasing its potential as a leader in the global transition to sustainable energy solutions.

Could the Indian electrostate supply chain rival China as a global technology hub one day?

🔎 Deeper Dive

Food Methane Problem 🐄

It's the one nobody really likes talking about. Our problem with global food systems and the methane emissions it creates.

We have talked about methane quite a bit, particularly in 039 and 044, and with methane related startups in 012 and 029.

Why? Because its 80 times more potent in Global Warming Potential in the first 20 years of its life - its the lever we can pull hard and fast for rapid impact.

Deep dive here from the always excellent Project Drawdown.

A lot of pressure on Big Oil to manage methane leaks from the horrific supply chain, but obviously they don't. Meanwhile:

The food system contributes methane along the entire supply chain, from farm to landfill, including from cattle, manure, rice farming, biomass burning, and food waste. When combining all of these links in the chain together, it is responsible for over 210 million tons of methane, more than half of global human-caused emissions, making food systems the largest source of the superpollutant.

We really need to start having some more honest and impactful conversations about global food challenges, and what rapid policy changes we can implement to drive change.

Yes some of that is down to personal choice; we can all make better food quality, source and supply chain decisions. But as ever, the big changes will need to come from Big Ag and Gov.

UN Water Bankruptcy 💧

Its a mega problem, full report here. Nearly 75% of the world’s population live in countries classified as water-insecure or critically water-insecure. 🤯

💥 Trump Watch

Quick check in over in Trump-la-la-lago-land.

As ICE continues to ramp up the authoritarian takeover, we have another killing, more protests and growing outrage domestically and internationally.

Mean while the US fleet moves to quash another authoritarian regime in Iran. Not sure what they have been doing for the last few years while Russia was busy invading Ukraine. Maybe that doesn't count. 🤔

The cracks are showing though, Noem passing the hot potato back upstairs to Trump & Miller. Reporting.

“Everything I’ve done, I’ve done at the direction of the President and Stephen,”

As another missile barrage and regime change wargame readies to play out, it's all a bit quiet on the Greenland front. But Canada is still getting pelters, and Alberta, the fossil fuel haven, is being leveraged off the side with a crowbar. Reporting.

Meanwhile, not much news on the Epstein Files release. The DOJ legally binding full document release which Trump signed, was December 19th. Where are we, about 1% through, with 2 million documents still to go. Reporting. 🪄

At least G.Maxwell hasn't forgotten, she knows how to play the game. Reporting.

Ghislaine Maxwell accused the Department of Justice of failing to investigate nearly 30 of Jeffrey Epstein’s associates

Office of Energy Dominance Finance 💪

Yes that is a real name of a real US Gov. office. The new tough-guy rebrand - it was the more appropriately named the Loan Progams Office. 🙄

It's mission:

“restructuring, revising, or eliminating more than $83 billion in Green New Scam loans and conditional commitments.”

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright added:

“ensure the responsible investment of taxpayer dollars.”

They have so far managed to remove around $9.5 billion in support for wind and solar projects, diverting it to natural gas and nuclear energy. Lovely stuff.

Coalie, The Hero We Need 🦹‍♂️

Who's this new American hero, why its Coalie! Here to help promote coal to the kids, feed them more emissions and stive to bleaken their long-term climate outlook!

Mine baby mine indeed. Good Clean Coal, fresh like tic-tacs:

Meanwhile, Trump health-orama continues to be monitored with a microscope. A number of professionals flagging a likely previous stroke and the obvious cognitive decline. Reporting.

He needs more fresh air and exercise...

💭 Final Thought

Remember I wrote in 050 about Trump attending Davos on the proviso of no climate talk.....update from 'We Don't have Time' 🤐

Across the 2026 World Economic Forum, the main special addresses from Trump, Carney, Merz, von der Leyen, Zelenski, and Macron amounted to almost four hours of speaking time. Not once was climate change or global warming mentioned.

That's it for this week - enjoy your weekend reset...

Thanks for your time, interest and support as always, let's keep pushing forward - remember, the momentum is unstoppable despite everything you might see and hear! 🌍
