No news is...good news...?

The newsletter is on a break this week, but I do still have other news for you.

Interview EP06 finally made it out of the video vault! It was ready before Christmas, then some technical issues, and finally its seen the light of day.

Check out the shorts here, and the full length once you've had a taster:

The Challenge โ›ฐ๏ธ

And there-in lies the challenge, my friends: the release of EP06 comes several months after the actual recording.

It's very frustrating for me, and no doubt the guests as well, who have given their time and energy for free.

Feels like continuity and momentum are lost, topics need to be edited and refined as they lose relevance. Example in EP06, the discussion on Zonal Pricing was on-point at the time of recording, now, not so much.

The process itself, once underway, isn't too bad. Before recording, it's scheduling the event, developing the themes and questions for discussion, and the recording itself. Essentially 1 day, split over separate hours.

After the recording, in final production, is more time consuming. I am much quicker than I was with more practice, and the software itself has improved over the last year alongside my own efforts. I've had to learn all this from scratch, which has been fun, challenging, and frustrating!

With each session being around 1 hour, a full watch through editing and refining the video, speech and captions takes around 3 hours.

I've also started slotting in some b-roll clips, e.g. from the interviewee's factory production or markets, etc which adds some more time. Then there is adding the music, intro/outro, making the covers. Another 2 hours.

Splitting into at least 6 x shorts for LinkedIn, sorting the edits for that as above. Onto exporting, uploading to video hosting, writing the post for here, embedding the videos here, plus posts for LinkedIn. All of that is another 3 hours.

Once you add in the delays, wrong turns, lack of progress through picking up and putting down again, it's likely 2.5 days perhaps heading towards 3 days realistically for an end-to-end episode, depending on technical challenges and my patience and willpower!

What makes it harder is the lack of continuity - jumping in-out, an hour here, an hour there, juggling everything else, makes it a much slower process.

I was doing all this video production at night, and to be honest, that's the problem; I'm just too tired and don't want to work lots of evenings anymore!

A reminder of what else is to come:

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ
EP07 - Stephen Crosher, RheEnergise [HD Pumped Hydro] - recorded
๐ŸŽ™๏ธ
EP08 - Georgia Ware, HotGreen [Industrial Heat Pumps] - recorded
๐ŸŽ™๏ธ
EP09 - Elke Mugova, Fraunhofer IEG [Minewater Heating] - recorded
๐Ÿ”ด
EP10 - Matthew Finn, EMEC [Test Facility] - February recording

The Solution ๐Ÿ’ก

This backlog is frustrating me, and I would like to get it produced and out into the world. Because I think it's interesting to share [hopefully you do too!], people have watched lots of the videos on LinkedIn and on this site. And because I owe it to the guests who have committed their time and effort.

Also, I have some new ideas to try out, and I feel I can't move on until I get these done!

Over the next few weeks, I am going to focus on getting these all produced, which means something else has to give. As a one-man show, I can't just hand-off to my horde of minions.

And of course, remember this is free - there are practical limits.

Juggling paid client projects, the newsletter, guest articles, and interviews is why delivery is dragging on.

The newsletter is going to be on sabbatical for a short time - with the research, analysis, and write-up, that takes 1 day a week. I need to find some time to get the interviews out; the newsletter is the sacrifice.

It's also a big birthday for me in March, lots of things planned with family and friends! It seems like the right time to make this short-term adjustment.

What Else โ‰๏ธ

Aside from the 4 interviews, I can still feed you different content to satisfy your insatiable appetite!

We have 3 x guest articles under way; no idea yet when they will surface, but I suspect we can get a couple through before end of March.

Also, for direct email subscribers only, I will send you access to beta-test something entirely new and, as yet, secret! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

That should keep you plenty busy!
