6 quick cuts from the long-form interview with Stephen Crosher for you today!

In case you aren't familiar, RheEnergise is a UK based scale-up with technology innovation in pumped hydro energy storage.

Pumped hydro is fantastic - the trouble is, sites are huge in scale, require a lot of land, long development times, big money, etc.

We only have 4 facilities in the UK, developed some 40 years ago - things have moved on since then in the energy transition.

They have a combined output of 2.8GW / approximately 9% of UK power demand. A critical asset, but we need a lot more.

There are 112 new schemes at various stages of development, for a combined 10GW / 200GWh.

See a geographical distribution challenge here?

The interesting innovation by RheEnergise is to use a high-density working fluid, with all newly developed turbomachinery and technology to suit, effectively to reduce the head height by half.

They look for hills, not mountains, to deploy at. And this massively increases the geographical spread and volume across the UK and the rest of the world.
